Founding & Early Years
- 1836: County formed from Rowan County. Named for William R. Davie, Revolutionary War officer and founder of UNC.

Davie County contributed soldiers to the Confederate army, including the Davie Rifles. Following the war, the county transitioned from a plantation-based economy to a diversified agricultural region, focusing on tobacco and small farms.
